On Thursday 16 January 2025, the Department for Transport announced the sixth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6), which will allocate up to £30m for pre-deployment trials and feasibility studies in clean maritime solutions between September 2025 and March 2026. The NSO is committed to ensuring continued R&D support for UK shipbuilding and this support will allow the enterprise to maximise the global maritime decarbonisation opportunity.
The application window for CMDC6 will open on 24 January and close on 16 April 2025. Stakeholders can learn more about the competition at the CMDC6 Briefing Event, scheduled for Monday 27 January in London.
CMDC aims to help bring pre-commercial technologies closer to market readiness, enabling UK industry to capitalise on the growing market for alternative clean maritime technologies, supporting the growth of coastal communities and businesses. This will unlock greater industry investment in clean maritime technologies supporting the Government missions to kickstart economic growth and help make the UK a clean energy superpower. This will also support wider Government priorities to deliver greener transport, build the UK supply chain, and accelerate innovation, investment and productivity through world class science, research and development.
