The Scottish Maritime Cluster was pleased to support a gathering in Glasgow on 1st November, hosted by Education Scotland, which saw schools from across the country meeting to learn more about the Maritime Futures programme, convened by the Ormiston Academies Trust. Pioneered in Cowes, Isle of Wight, this is an initiative to weave ‘maritime’ through the mainstream curriculum, enhancing children’s learning – and exciting both them and their teachers in the process – and pointing the way to the wide range of careers available. Through the Cluster, Ken Brown and Natalie Johnstone of Belcan presented what the company does in the marine engineering work, and its active STEM schools programme.

We and Ormiston hope that the strong interest shown by schools at the event will lead to a group working together to take things forward. Watch this space!
